Hello Museum Friends,
We opened our doors in November 2018!
Having a place to see our mill village history come alive and visit with friends has been such a rewarding experience! Creating this community space has been a labor of love of so many people who gave artifacts, sent checks, or provided words of encouragement. It belongs to all of us who have connections to this mill village heritage. Come see what all the excitement is about.
Our museum is open for visitors every Friday and Saturday from 11:00--4:00 with free admission, so bring your family and friends.
---The museum house content is 80% complete with more artifacts and some technology still to be added.
---The seven outdoor exhibits are 90% complete, with some signage and the "out house" remodel still in the works.
---Due to storm drainage issues, the Olympia School Annex is not yet open, even though our content is complete. When our parking lot is finished, the annex will be available for visitors.
The museum rehab turned out beautifully! Thanks to local businesses that helped:
---Gateway Supply donated plumbing fixtures
---Columbia Building Industry Association and Great Southern Homes supplied both dry wall and bead board
---Modern Exterminating treated our building for termites
---K W Beverage matched donations for our Midlands Gives
---Lindau Chemicals also donated matching funds.
---Vulcan Materials generously installed storm rain gutters on both the house and the annex. They are also helping us get the parking lot completed.
Thanks to our group of Volunteer Guides who will greet visitors. They received training and are certified to assist when you visit.
There is still work that must be done. Soon we will begin our Spring Donor Campaign. We need to raise $20,000 to complete the museum and replenish our Reserve Fund. Please think about how you will help.
We look forward to seeing you soon! Olympia still shines! We are OLYMPIA STRONG!
