Many things are happening as we plan our One Year Celebration of the Olympia Mill Village Museum. In this past month we have traveling visitors from ,England, California, Maine, New Jersey, Charleston, New York City and Whitmire SC to tour. We continue working on facilities, content and marketing.
This is where we are:
FACILITIES
VULCAN MATERIALS AND MACEMORE CRANE donated both labor and materials for a concrete pad for our ADA parking space. Vulcan added loads of rocks to shape the parking lot.
We are so grateful for their support!
We are working to complete SCDOT requirements for the driveway completion and then will have our final inspections.
Storm windows to protect our sizable investment and provide insulation are in the works. THANKS TO RICHLAND COUNTY H TAX GRANTS AND COUNCILWOMAN DALHI MYERS
We are working with Guardian Fence to install wrought iron fencing along front of property for additional security. THANKS, AGAIN RICHLAND COUNTY
Exterior paint contract is being negotiated. (OUR UPCOMING FALL FUND RAISER WILL FOCUS ON THIS--WE NEED YOUR HELP!)
We will remove all the trophies and artifacts from the Olympia Annex so we can install the composite floor. DONATIONS FROM OUR RESERVE FUND WILL PAY THIS COST.
After that installation of all the Olympia School exhibits will be completed and we will have a Grand Opening for the Olympia High Annex in November.
CONTENT
Curriculum Content (based on SC Curriculum Standards) packet has been shared with prospective teachers to bring student groups to visit. THANKS TO BCBSSC FOR GRANT.
Phase One of our Museum Archive and data base will be complete by October 30. THANKS TO RICHLAND/ COLUMBIA SERTOMA CLUB and WE ARE OLYMPIA FOR GRANT.
Additional artifacts and memorabilia are being collected and displayed both in the house and the Annex as they are curated. THANKS to our LINTHEAD NATION for bringing valuable artifacts to share.
MARKETING
In August museum information was distributed to all area school districts to invite teachers to bring school groups.
We continue to network with other local museums (Cayce, McKissick, SC State, SC State Library, etc.) to share information and increase visitor numbers.
We have an active Social Media presence--follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
A new OMV Museum brochure is being finalized and will be ready for distribution in November. This brochure will be installed in local "card rack" to spread the word.
Our wonderful VOLUNTEER GUIDE TEAM continues to be an integral part of our outreach. Let me know if you want to join our Volunteer Guide team.
Our 2019 Fall Fund Raising Campaign is coming soon. Please plan to be a Sustaining Supporter of this worthwhile project.
Much as been done, and more needs to be done before we are complete. The museum is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00--4:00 and we hope you will plan to visit, and then visit again!
Admission is free! Call us for special tours.
Love to all you Lintheads!
